Return to Wentworth
Start 6.30pm Sheffield Tap

Amazing to think that it’s four years since Matt Turner and myself took the gang up to Wentworth.

Meet: 6 at the Sheffield Tap (for 6:30 PROMPT start)

Time to pump up those tyres and lace up your favourite cycling shoes (unless they’re slip-ons.)

Myself and Lord Fitz-Attwood of Nether Haugh took a recce ride last Thursday and we think we’ve got a pretty good route sorted out. That being so, the recce ride on Wednesday is cancelled, so enjoy midsummer’s eve!

Also, having taken soundings from fellow FNR’s we’ve decided not to have a pub stop en route. This is a slightly longer ride than normal = about 40kms (25 miles) so we think you’ll need to save your energy for the ride home. Having said that there is more flatness on this ride than most FNR’s so everyone should be able to do it – if you do start to flag on the way home you can always catch a train at Rotherham or Meadowhall and still join us for drinks at the Sheffield Tap afterwards – how’s that for planning? Wentworth does have a couple of great pubs which we recommend you visit sometime – just not this day. The baker’s is fab as well if you visit during the daytime.

As well as the house itself we will pass close by a converted windmill – Wentworth’s a bit of a Heage – and ride through an interesting social housing estate in Upper Haugh – pity Mick won’t be with us as he would be wetting himself with joy! Then we’ll descend through Rawmarsh and join the canal towpath for the run into Sheffield.

HEADS UP!!

Bring lights and water – it could still be hot even into the evening. Surfaces are generally good but we do use some unmade tracks so ensure that your tyres are in good shape and well pumped up. Skinny-tyred road bikes would not be ideal.

Ride is led by Simon, a Cycling UK certificated Group Leader.

Get ready to enjoy yourselves!
