Wild Northlands: Sheffield Cycle Routes
Start 6.30pm Sheffield Tap

Theme: Simon says, Mick’s off on his hols in August so I thought I would leap in and put on an FNR for those poor souls who have been left to tough it out in the weltering heat of the city.
On this ride we will travel along a varied selection of Sheffield Cycle Routes, taking care to find the most pleasant and leafy sections, and of course with a pub stop en route.
Join us on a journey through time from the rural past, through the Industrial Revolution and on to a high-tech future as you explore the cycle routes of England’s fourth largest city.
I hope this ride will inspire both experienced and new cyclists, whether commuting on a daily basis, going out on leisure rides or visiting Sheffield from afar, to explore less well visited parts of the city by bike.

In 2000, I had an idea for National Bike Week — why not answer enquiries about cycle routes in Sheffield by email, just for the week?
After a very busy week of answering enquiries, I had a body of work that described some of the best cycling routes around Sheffield.
I put them on the Pedal Pushers (now CycleSheffield) web site. They became some of the most visited pages on the site.
CycleSheffield has decided to focus its digital presence on campaigning, so the time seemed right to give the Routes section its own site.
You can find the site at
Sections on bike-rail, bike shops, e-bikes and FAQ’s about cycling in Sheffield have been added with more to come.
Also I have now embarked on a Full Audit of all the routes on the site, which I thought would take a couple of years but looks more like taking the rest of my life!

Heads Up: !Lights! Locks! spare inner tube, tough tyres, dress appropriately some paths but nothing too off-roady
