Sheffield FridayNightRide

we have nothing to lose but our chains

2012/06/22 Stanage Pole

Ride report to follow awful day weather lifted slightly for 11 riders to get to the Pole before getting blown off Stanage down to the 3 Merry Lads

Ian who led the ride writes: If anybody is wondering what happened, we had 11 hardy souls and we all made it to Stanage Pole in two groups. My own trip up was more like the North Pole as I caught the end of a storm!. We all met up at the 3 merry lads for drinks and chips, then an easy ride back to town with a massive tail wind. Great night out, sometimes the wrong type of weather can make the journey more enjoyable.

Next SFNR Redmires and Stanage Pole
(off road bikes can get on to Stanage Edge)
22 June 2012
Start 6.30 pm Devonshire Green

Why? Beautiful route and place to get to, longest Friday of the year so catch the sunset, SFNR’s 4th birthday – celebrate 4 yrs and over 50 different SFNRs, one of CycleSheffield’s Bike Week events
Route: Out via Porter Valley, back along the ridge, maybe finishing off by going down Hagg Hill

Heads up! Nice route, lowest gradients we can find. Should suit any bike, except for the rough track up to the Pole. May have to push your bike the last 50 yds. Take care on Redmires Rd past Wyming Brook on the way back – there are far more patches than road and its like riding cobbles!!
Pitstop at The Three Merry Lads on the return

or if you want carry on from Stanage Pole to Hathersage where the pool is opening late 7.30 -10 that night for the longest Friday of the year (£5 entry)

A sunny, mild evening has been booked – unlike when Ian, Richard and Mick recce’d the route – see photo below of Ian and Mick ‘up the Pole’ about 1 pm last Thursday – photo taken by Rich

Ride to be led by Ian Loasby 07805066432 and Richard Attwood
Mick will be on holiday in the Peloponnese where it is ‘scorchio!’ (37 C and sunny)
